Project Summary:
The Sierra Leone Teachers' Union has been implementing the EFAIDS Programme since 2007.
Activities in 2008
Master trainers was held in Freetown, bringing together teachers from 11 of the 12 districts of Sierra Leone. The training component was consolidated by 7 subsequent 3-day workshops for teachers across 7 of the districts.
SLTU carried out research into the ‘Impact of Teacher Quality on Quality Education Service Delivery in the Classroom’. The report highlighted the problems and constraints that teachers and their schools face in providing quality education. The recommendations from this report will form the foundation of advocacy efforts during 2009.
During World AIDS Day, EFAIDS-trained teachers coordinated the ‘One Hour on AIDS’ lesson in many schools across Sierra Leone. SLTU’s vocal stance on AIDS related issues means that more teachers are accessing Voluntary Testing and Counselling.
