Project Summary:

FETRAENSEÑANZA began working on the EFAIDS Programme in 2008.

Activities in 2008

Training workshops resulted in 233 teachers receiving the skills to provide effective HIV prevention education to colleagues and students. Training workshops took place in Caracas and the state of Bolívar, percent and half of those participating were women. The union also organised a day of dissemination of information to the general public in the capital. Part of the focus of HIV prevention workshops has been on the right to work irrespective of serological status and non-discrimination.

Throughout 2008, FETRAENSEÑANZA worked in cooperation with other national teacher unions on advocacy to achieve a decent salary for teachers, with its resulting impact on the quality of education.
