Project Summary:
Aims:
• Provide basic education for young adults who did not complete their primary school education (bar-restaurant, sewing, masonry, hairdressing, tiling, painting, plumbing, floriculture, etc.)
• Enable youth to pursue their education, with a special attention to girls
• Reduce the risk of delinquency.
Expected Results:
• Reinforcement of strategic alliances between the national Government and the two teacher unions with respect to EFA targets and MDG goals
• Training of boys and girls school drop-outs in Conakry and in regional centres
• Meaningful employment for the staff in the training centres
• Employment for students who complete the program
• Formal technical training for girls
• Increased opportunities for young people to provide for their needs and those of their families
• Less juvenile delinquency
• Collaboration between Ministry and Intersyndicale results in a positive relationship and common action
• Strengthening capacity of Intersyndicale
Working Methods:
• Build partnerships between national Government, partner unions, local business communities and educational authorities to identify and respond to training needs in order to maximize the chance of program graduates finding local employment in their trade
• Establish training centres via the above partnerships, including staffing, training, program development, recruitment of students, etc.
• Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the program including the performance of the centres
Number of Participants in this country: Approximately 350 students per year and growing
Target group: Primary school dropouts
Gender Perspective: Integrated in program
