Project Summary:
Aims:
• Strengthen SNES as an organization and a union representing secondary school teachers in Mauritania
• Strengthen trade unionism in education in Mauritania so that unions are recognized as a national voice for teachers and as a partner toward the achievement of quality public education for all in Mauritania
Expected Results:
• Greater visibility for the union
• Teachers overcome their reluctance to join a teacher trade union and professional organization
• Build up SNES credibility with teachers, so that they will join the union, pay membership fees and support its policies and programs
• Break up the isolation of Mauritanian teachers by increasing communications of quality to teachers, so that they are better informed about educational issues and take part more actively in activities aimed at improving the quality of education in Mauritania
• SNES leaders are better informed of specific challenges faced by teachers and teachers are better informed of assistance that SNES can give them
Working Methods:
• Provide a minimum of operational funds for SNES
• Enable SNES to produce a newsletter
• Cover the costs of recruitment visits in different parts of the country
Number of Participants in this country: 400 teachers per year
Target group: Secondary school teachers in Mauritania
Gender Perspective: Integrated in program
