Salimata is serving her second term as a member of the Executive Board.
She started her career in 1982 as a teacher appointed to the IEP primary school inspectorate in Treichville, Ivory Coast. She also served as education adviser and as headmistress at the IEP. In 1982, she joined the national public primary school teachers' union, SNEPPCI, first as a school union representative and later as a district representative. Between 1991 and 1998, she served on the union's national Executive Board and specialised in women's issues. She became General Secretary of SNEPPCI in 1998 and was re-elected in 1999 and in 2004. Salimata is also the 2nd Deputy General Secretary of the General Workers' Union of the Ivory Coast, UGTCI.
Salimata was first elected to the EI Executive Board at EI's Fourth World Congress in Porto Alegre in 2004.
