Position:Accountant, EI Finance Unit
Location: EI Headoffice, Brussels
Role:
You work under the direct supervision of the coordinator of the EI Finance Unit and in collaboration with other EI staff, in the provision of bookkeeping, accounting and other professional and administrative services in the EI Finance Unit.
Duties:
- You maintain, follow up and report on accounts relating to projects;
- You assist the Finance Coordinator with the maintenance of the accounts and the financial records of EI;
- You undertake administration of debtors and creditors accounts, including processing of invoices and making and maintaining records of payments; You prepare year-end closing of accounts and prepare the balance sheet;Y
- You assist with the administering of salary payments to staff, including the administering of pension arrangements, personnel related insurances, social security and taxation matters;
- You undertake such other appropriate financial and accounting tasks as are required from time to time.
Education and Professional Training:
- A first class university degree or its equivalent in accountancy;
- Excellent knowledge of English and a good working knowledge of French/Dutch;
- Knowledge of and experience in using appropriate information technology.
Personal Qualities:
- Good organisational and analytical skills;
- Ability to work systematically and with meticulous attention to detail;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Sensitivity to other cultural backgrounds;
- Ability to work in a challenging and sometimes pressurised working environment.
Professional Experience:
- At least three years working in an accounting or similar environment would be desirable;
- Knowledge and experience of a trade union and/or education environment would be an advantage.
Salary and Conditions of Service:
The post is a full-time one. The contract will be offered as an open-ended contract. A generous salary and conditions of work package will be provided in accordance with the EI/Staff Collective Agreement.
Note:
- All EI staff are accountable to the General Secretary, either directly or through designated staff members.
- If the needs of the organisation so require, staff members may be requested to perform appropriate duties related to another position, either on a temporary or permanent basis, provided that these duties correspond to the level of their position and that their professional experience and training is adequate.
- Position descriptions are not definitive and may be adapted. Staff at the professional assistant level may also be required to assist with other appropriate work of the organisation and, especially, to assist with the preparations for and to attend and assist with the work of the quadrennial congress.
