Alain Pélissier has been a member of the EI Executive Board since 2004.
He has been Secretary-Treasurer of Quebec’s central labour body, the Centrale des syndicats du Québec, since June 1994. He was Executive Board member with responsibility for CSQ finances, having the accounts audited and presenting the annual report on the financial statements to the Executive Board, the Inter-sectoral Council and the General Council. As lead budget officer, he submits an annual draft budget to each of these bodies. He is member-in-charge of the CSQ’s Ways and Means Committee.
Mr. Pélissier is also Secretary of different CSQ bodies, and acts as policy spokesman for the educational support workers’ union, Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire (FPSS), and the retired teachers’ union, Association des retraitées et retraités de l’enseignement (AREQ).
He also has policy responsibility for a range of issues, including coordination of the employed and retired teachers’ network for national negotiations, Education for a Viable Future (EVF), the Établissements Verts Brundtland (EVB) sustainable development education network, the CSQ/Oxfam-Quebec international solidarity fund, group insurance and various international representations. He has been President of the Monique-Fitz-Back Foundation, dedicated to promoting education for sustainable development and a healthy environment, since it was founded in June 2006.
Mr. Pélissier is Vice-Chair of UNESCO’s Sectoral Commission on Education. He attends the meetings of the French-speaking trade-union committee on education and training (CSFEF). He is responsible for employment relations with CSQ staff.
He was co-chair for organization of the Planèt’ERE 1 Forum on environmental education held in Montreal in November 1997, and headed the CSQ delegation to the Planèt’ERE 2 Forum held in France in November 2001, and the Planèt’ERE 3 Forum held in Burkina Faso in July 2005.

Alain Pélissier taught history and geography for 15 years. He was a trade union activist for over 20 years, serving as Chair of his local trade union - Syndicat de l’enseignement du Nord-de-la-Capitale – from 1988 to 1994.
