[2009-06-30] EI expresses its solidarity with Honduran teachers
Following the removal of the President of Honduras, EI wishes to express its concern for the situation in the country and the violence carried out against protesters.
EI member organisations in the country, under the umbrella of the Federación Hondureña de Organizaciones Magisteriales (FHOM), have called a strike to express their rejection of the coup d’état and have vowed to protest publicly for the return of the democratically elected President, Manuel Zelaya.
EI supports Honduran teachers in their action, condemns any violence against peaceful protesters and calls for the immediate end of the curfew imposed on 28 June.
