Delphine SANGLAN (Professional Assistant)

Delphine SANGLAN

Delphine joined EI in 2000 to work on HIV/AIDS prevention and since 2006 on the EFAIDS programme.

Her work involves assisting and advising EI affiliates, mainly in Africa, on how to develop and implement union activities to contribute to the three major goals of the EFAIDS programme which are: the prevention of new HIV infections among teachers and learners; the mitigation of the negative effect of AIDS and other illnesses on achieving EFA goals; and the increase of the number of learners completing quality basic education.

After completing studies in Social Anthropology and an Aggregation (Teacher certificate) in Social Sciences in the Arts Faculty of the University of Liege, Belgium, Delphine joined the International Secretariat of the Global March against Child Labour in New Delhi, India. At the same time she taught French at the Alliance Française of New-Delhi.

Returning to Belgium, Delphine worked for several Belgian and international NGOS including Social Alert where she was Children's Rights Coordinator and coordinated a programme on trafficking in children. She also worked with the former World Confederation of Labour on various union campaigns, including one on the ratification of the ILO Convention 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour. She worked with Belgian NGOs where she was in charge of developing educational material on issues such as the third-world debt, globalisation and child labour.

Delphine is of Belgian nationality; she speaks French and English and is learning Spanish.
