Dominique Marlet is currently Human and Trade Union Rights Senior Coordinator at Education International.
Dominique's work aims to provide a rapid EI response to human and trade union rights violations in the education sector everywhere in the world. EI's action in support of member organisations takes the form of protest letters, Urgent Action Appeals, investigation or support missions, networking, and eventually complaints with intergovernmental bodies such as the ILO, the CEART or the Council of Europe. Dominique is working under the supervision of EI's Deputy General Secretary, Jan Eastman.
In addition to the permanent flow of emergency requests for support from member organisations, EI focuses on countries which present long-term and/or systematic challenges through defence actions and organisational support. Dominique also closely follows work in connection with the ILO supervisory mechanisms (Committee on Freedom of Association and Committee on the Application of Standards) and works together with ACTRAV, with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), other Global Union Federations and Human Rights groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
Dominique also coordinates the EI Pan European activities dealing with Equality issues.
Dominique first joined EI in 1997 as Communications Coordinator, and before that, she worked for the then ICFTU and Amnesty International. She began her career as a journalist for the Belgian press agency Belga, after reading journalism at the "Université Libre de Bruxelles" in Brussels, Belgium. She has also been a member of the Belgian trade union centre FGTB since 1990.
Dominique was born in 1968 in Belgium and has three children. She speaks French, English and Dutch and practices her Spanish as often as possible.
