Patrick GONTHIER
Patrick Gonthier is EI's Vice President for the European Region since its last World Congress held in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 2004. He was previously elected in the 2001 World Congress held in Jomtien, Thailand, as an Executive Board member.
Since May 2002, he is General Sercretary of UNSA Education (France), after being re-elected unanimously at its National Congress in May 2004. UNSA Education is the umbrella body for 26 unions representing workers in the sectors of education, youth, sports, culture and research.
As a teacher, Patrick taught at all levels of the primary education, from pre-school to specialised classes for children from migrant families. He was first the trade union representative of his region, then from 1993 to 2000 national secretary of the "Syndicat des Enseignants" (teacher union) under UNSA Education, in charge of teacher education, secularity and freedoms. He also held various positions in many education associations.
Patrick was born in 1957. He now lives in the Parisian region.
