United Kingdom NHS

Agenda for Change, a national agreement for the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, was implemented in 2004 through equal value proofing. This was done by establishing a national job evaluation scheme capable of evaluating a wide range of jobs, and the introduction of a job evaluation benchmarking exercise. This has been part of a major overhaul of the NHS. The initiative has been hailed as the most ambitious attempt to reform pay and conditions ever undertaken in the UK. The new system involves widespread job evaluations and pay reviews which will ultimately place pay, grading, access to career development, and working hours on a more equitable basis for women and men throughout the NHS. UNISON has provided training on job evaluation for local negotiators.
