The contest was aimed at drawing attention to the importance of literacy and education. Nearly 1,000 photos and videos were submitted from 93 countries, and over 7,400 votes cast.

After 12 weeks, GPE, together with over 100 co-sponsors, announced on 5 December the end of the contest and named the grand prize winners and 10 finalists selected by judges.

Almost 40,000 visitors went to the GPE’s contest website, with most participants coming from Turkey, the United States, and Colombia.

EI welcomes this kind of contest, stressing as it does the importance of reading, literacy and quality education.
