Consultation begins on 2013 EFA Global Monitoring Report

published 17 December 2012 updated 7 January 2013

EI strongly encourages affiliates to take part in the online consultation for the 2013 Education for All Global Monitoring Report (EFA GMR) focusing on “Teaching and Learning for Development” launched on 26 November.

Participation of education unions vital

The EFA GMR is published annually under the auspices of UNESCO, and EI publishes a response each year. Considering the theme of next GMR, it will be of primary importance that teachers’ experiences are at the heart of the report and this online consultation is “a unique opportunity for EI and for education unions to make their voices heard and recommend priorities for the post-MDG 2015 agenda,” said EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen. “Our participation will be important in ensuring that education is kept high on the international agenda after 2015.”

How to participate

According to the concept note underlying the consultation, the 2013 EFA GMR will highlight why education is pivotal for development in a rapidly changing world. The report will provide evidence-based policy recommendations in three inter-connected parts:

•             Part 1 will provide the annual audit on progress towards the six Education for All goals

•             Part 2 will present data in new and innovative ways to show how more education and better learning for all children and young people, regardless of their background, gender, wealth, or where they live, contributes to a broad range of development outcomes

•             Part 3 will explain how investing wisely in teachers and in other reforms aimed at strengthening equitable learning can transform the long-term prospects of people and societies
