Botswana and Swaziland: Report on women's rights and HIV/AIDS

published 13 June 2007 updated 13 June 2007

Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) has just published a report citing women's rights as a key factor in halting the spread of HIV.

Botswana and Swaziland have the top two positions on the HIV prevalence tables. They are also countries where considerable gender inequalities exist. The PHR report links the low status of women in Botswana and Swaziland to vulnerability to HIV infection. They call for women’s rights to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
