To the right is the list of Urgent Action Appeals launched by EI on behalf of its member organisations. An urgent action appeal is a form of worldwide mobilisation of EI's network of member organisations and global partners such as the Global Union Federations. EI calls on this network when there is an imminent risk of danger for trade unionists or when teacher organisations are harassed or prevented from carrying legitimate trade union actions. Colombia - Immediate release of academic and unionist Miguel Ángel Beltrán

Education International (EI) asks its member organisations to call on the government and judicial authorities of the Republic of Colombia to urgently review the judicial case against Dr Miguel Ángel Beltrán, former professor at the National University of Colombia, and to authorise his immediate release.

IRAN - Release teacher union leader Esmail Abdi

Education International (EI) urgently calls on its members to request the immediate and unconditional release of Esmail Abdi, leader of the Tehran branch of the Iranian Teachers’ Trade Association, by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mr Abdi has been unjustly sentenced to six years’ imprisonment by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Court.

South Korea: Stop attacks on trade unionists now

Despite international pressure, the Park Geun-hye administration officially deprived the Korean teacher Union KTU (Chunkyojo) of its legal status. After a legal battle, started in October 2013 by the Government to decertify the KTU, on January 21, 2016, the appeal court upheld the first court's verdict. So the KTU lost its legal status.
