EI: “We must redouble our efforts”

published 1 October 2009 updated 1 October 2009

EI welcomed the commitments made in Pittsburgh last week to put “quality jobs at the heart of the recovery” and “to strengthen support for the most vulnerable”.

However, the G20 failed to follow up on important statements about the role of education that were adopted at the G8 held in July. As EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen put it: “We will have to redouble our efforts to drive home EI’s two key messages: Investing in education is crucial for sustainable recovery, and Everyone has a right to quality education, messages that were supported by the G8 just three months ago”.
