published 17 September 2008 updated 17 September 2008

From 7-8 September, the Inter-institutional Committee of the project "Equal Opportunities with a Gender Perspective for Latin America" met in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The Inter-institutional Committee comprises representatives of the National Education Association (USA), the Canadian Teachers' Federation, Utdanningsforbundet (Norway), Lärarförbundet (Sweden), the Federación de Trabajadores de la Enseñanza de la UGT (Spain), the Federación de Enseñanza CC.OO. (Spain), as well as representatives from Education International.   The principal aim of the meeting was to discuss the new co-operation strategies developed under the equal opportunities project.

As part of the debate process, participants analysed the results of the project and its implications for both the Latin American Network of Women Workers in Education and the Inter-institutional Committee. On the basis of this analysis, they also discussed plans for the continuation of the project in 2009.   At the end of the event, participants pledged their continuing support – both political and financial – for this initiative and agreed to promote solidarity and the exchange of knowledge and policy-making expertise on education, trade union and social issues from a gender perspective.
