published 22 September 2011 updated 24 October 2011

ETUCE Bureau members have convened in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss key issues pertaining to education all over Europe.

At the meeting on 22 September, Bureau members also gave special attention to the resolutions passed at the recent EI World Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, including the actions to be taken to implement the European resolution and the resolution on trade union action against neo-liberal policies and austerity plans in Europe.

The education union leaders from across the region also considered the future approach to the European Sectoral Social Dialogue in Education, and partnerships with the Council of Europe.

The ETUCE Bureau heard reports on developments in several European committees and working groups, such as the CEE Roundtable, the ETUCE-ETUI Seminar on Vocational Education and Training, the Higher Education and Research Committee, the Equality and Status of Women Committees, and the School Leadership Working Group.

ETUCE Regional Director, Martin Rømer, said: "There are many issues that teacher unions in Europe will have to tackle in the coming years to build the future of quality education. It will not be an easy task, but together, we will achieve it."
