Symposium reflects on future of education, equity

EI Deputy General Secretary David Edwards participated May 14 in a virtual panel discussion on education policy and the future of education. The webinar was held in the framework of the Whole Child Symposium, a live online event organised by ASCD.

The organisation describes itself as “a global leader in developing and delivering innovative programs, products, and services that empower educators to support the success of each learner.”

Audiences heard from panels of school leaders, policy experts, teachers, and students. The Symposium is part of a continuing program by ASCD, which has prominently led an international discussion about the concept of merging health advocacy with that of education.

During the panel discussion on education policy, the discussion dug into the symposium’s topic “Choosing Your Tomorrow Today”, exploring how school, policy, classroom, and student decisions today affect what our children, societies, and economies will need and become tomorrow.

“The Unite message came through loud and clear and it was a great setup to the upcoming major Conference on quality education to be held in Montreal,” said Edwards.

“For a prosperous, peaceful and sustainable future, it’s critical that we focus on what works in education and what will be needed in the future to be successful. Educators and their unions must make their voices heard and influence and help determine education policy at local, national and global level.”

Today, participants will be able to follow separate panel discussions on classroom instruction and on students.
