Sudden death of a deeply committed and well-respected education unionist

published 18 September 2014 updated 18 September 2014

It is with great sadness that her colleagues and friends within Education International (EI), its French affiliate UNSA-Education and around the world, especially in francophone countries, have learnt of the unexpected death of our colleague, Agnes Breda, at her home in Paris on 16 September.

“Agnes worked for many years with UNSA-Education in France,” EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen recalled. “Since May 2011, she had been a special consultant in EI, working on human and trade union rights issues and capacity building with member organisations, especially in the francophone countries. She was a dedicated and committed trade unionist and gained the respect and friendship of all of those with whom she worked.”

He went on to say that Agnès was a valued and generous colleague who will be missed by both EI staff and those in UNSA Education and other EI member organisations who were privileged to work with her.

The EI community wishes to extend its condolences to all of her friends and to her family, and a delegation will be attending her funeral to be held on Tuesday 23 September in the morning in Paris.
