Promoting social dialogue to eradicate child labour and strengthen quality education provisions in Zimbabwe

Description

Following the successful implementation of a project against child labour in Chipinge (Manicaland province) in 2015-2020, ZIMTA and PTUZ are developing a child labour free zone in the Muzabani district (Mashonaland Central province).

Objectives

Development of a child labour free zone in the wards 13 and 14 of the Muzabani district (Mashonaland Central province).

Activities

  • Baseline survey
  • Pre-training assessment of teachers’ knowledge on Child labour Issues
  • Training teachers on child labour issues
  • Providing education and playing material, booklets and posters for 10 schools
  • Creatin children rights clubs in 10 schools
  • Social accountability workshop with community leadership (aiming at the leadership developing child labour monitoring tools)
  • Teachers’ Study Circles for teachers to share professional information and professional knowledge on child labour
  • Capacity building workshop with school development members, ward councillors and members from Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education
  • Develop one bridge school for ex-child workers
  • Support indoor games as retention mechanism activities in the schools
  • Monitoring the situation of children rights/child labour in the previous project location (Chipinge)
