
Shelley L. Morse
Board Member, North America-Caribbean
Shelley Morse brings a wealth of relevant experience as a teacher, trade unionist, champion of human rights, social justice activist, and as a CTF/FCE leader. Throughout her career in education, Shelley has been a leader. In her home province, as well as nationally and internationally, Shelley has been dedicated to making a positive difference for education unions and their members.
Shelley is a former Nova Scotia Teachers Union President (2012-2016). In July 2019, she was acclaimed the Canadian Teachers’ Federation President after serving three one-year terms as a CTF/FCE Vice-president on the Executive Committee, and several years on the Board of Directors. In August 2024, Shelley was elected to serve a 5-year term on the EI Executive Board in a regional seat for the North America/Caribbean region.
Prior to these roles Shelley undertook various leadership opportunities at the CTF/FCE and NSTU. Her extensive executive history includes being appointed NSTU delegate at several CTF/FCE AGMs since 2005. Shelley has also chaired CTF/FCE Advisory Committees - Status of Women, Diversity and Human Rights; Indigenous Education, and the Teaching Profession. She was Chair of the CTF/FCE Trust Fund and was a Trustee on two other occasions. While serving as CTF/FCE President, she was appointed the first-ever Chair of the EI North America/Caribbean Regional Committee.
Passionate about advocating for gender parity and women’s rights in Canada and globally, Shelley attended the EI World Congress in Ottawa (2015), Bangkok (2019), and Buenos Aires (2024). She was a participant at two EI World Women’s Conferences - Ireland (2014), and virtually (2022), and a delegate to the United Nations Commission for the Status of Women in 2015, 2016, 2019, and virtually in 2021 and 2022. At the 2021 virtual UNCSW, Shelley was a CLC panelist for #donewaiting: Making gains toward Women’s Economic Justice.
