Education International condemns the Trump led United States military intervention in Venezuela
Education International and the Regional Committee of Education International Latin America unequivocally condemn the United States military intervention in Venezuela, the bombings, and the abduction of its president by the United States government.
This is an unprovoked attack on Venezuela’s sovereignty and poses a threat to the region and to multilateralism around the world. This use of military force is a clear violation of international law.
We reject any attempt to impose foreign domination through violence, invasions, or occupations.
As educators we demand that the international community act immediately to stop and condemn the use of military force. We also express our solidarity with the Venezuelan people, who have suffered greatly and must be the ones to define their own destiny.
We call for military funds to instead be invested in public education, which is the foundation of a democratic society.
We urge all unions and social movements in Latin America and other regions to condemn the military intervention and to defend the region as a place free from foreign interference, invasions, and occupations.
