EI to launch World Teachers’ Day 2007

published 10 July 2007 updated 10 July 2007

Teachers and their unions from all around the world will campaign together on October 5th, World Teachers’ Day, to call for Quality Teachers for Quality Education!

World Teachers’ Day has become a key campaigning moment, giving teachers, students, parents and communities the opportunity to celebrate the hard work performed by teachers, but also to demand that governments provide adequate resources to fund education. This year, in line with previous years, EI will be joining its affiliates in calling for ‘Quality Teachers for Quality Education!’ The focus will be on working conditions, according to the motto ‘Better working conditions for teachers mean better learning conditions for learners’.

As in previous years, EI will provide its affiliates with materials, information and funds to help them get the message out on World Teachers’ Day. Please check our website (http://www.ei-ie.org/worldteachersday) for more information and to register.

The EI Campaigns Unit will be present at EI Congress in Berlin, where World Teachers’ Day will be officially launched. Congress participants are invited to visit the stand in the Exhibition Area, and tell us about their working conditions, how they affect their ability to deliver quality education and how union activism may have affected their situation. These testimonies will be recorded and posted on our website.

However, even if you do not have the opportunity to visit us at Congress, you can still log on to the EI website and submit your opinion. You can also conduct similar activities at your union, collecting and disseminating testimonies to publicise the working conditions of teachers in your country. Join us to let the voices of teachers be heard on October 5th!
