ESU celebrates 25 years

published 17 October 2007 updated 17 October 2007

Today, October 17th, the European Students’ Union (ESU) celebrates 25 years on the front line of student politics.

The ESU has grown from its origins in 1982 as the Western European Students’ Information Bureau, to represent over 11 million students across Europe through its 47 members in 36 countries.

The anniversary coincides with the 14th European Student Convention, held this year in Lisbon, Portugal.

On the evening of 17th October, official celebrations will include a dinner with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education from Portugal and other guests. EI will be represented by Monique Fouilhoux, Senior coordinator, Education and Employment Unit, whose speech is reproduced below.

Education International extends its congratulations to the ESU and looks forward to continued cooperation between the two organisations.
