Union meeting to precede International AIDS Conference in Mexico

published 30 July 2008 updated 30 July 2008

The Global Union AIDS Programme is organising a two-day Labour AIDS Forum to facilitate trade union cooperation in advance of the biennial International AIDS Conference taking place in Mexico City from 3-8 August 2008.

For the EFAIDS Programme the Labour AIDS Forum will be a valuable opportunity to share best practice on trade union initiatives to combat HIV/AIDS. Roxana Rogalski (CTERA-Argentina), Rosario Avila and Gabriela Bonilla will participate from the Latin American region and Jan Eastman, EI Deputy General Secretary will attend on behalf of the EI Headquarters. During the Forum they will contribute their experience from the EFAIDS programme while gathering information, resources and contacts to consolidate and advance the work of teachers’ unions with HIV and AIDS issues.

Their participation in the subsequent XVII International AIDS Conference will enable them to bring the EFAIDS Programme and the work of teachers’ unions on HIV/AIDS to a wider audience. Under the slogan, ‘Universal Action Now’, the event will bring together 25,000 policy-makers, activists and scientists.
