‘One Hour on AIDS’ on World AIDS Day

published 14 November 2008 updated 14 November 2008

World AIDS Day 2008 is fast approaching. The day is marked on December 1 and is an opportunity to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and show solidarity with people affected by the virus.

Teacher unions involved in the EI EFAIDS Programme are making plans. In Nepal, the Nepal Teachers’ Association (NTA) and the Nepal National Teachers’ Association (NNTA) have created a radio jingle on HIV/AIDS to be played on radio stations throughout the country during November and December. In Uganda, UNATU will use the occasion of World AIDS Day to publish an issue paper highlighting the national Policy on HIV/AIDS in the Workplace.

Education International has sent the ‘One Hour on AIDS’ activity kit to teacher union offices around the world. The toolkit is an ideal way for teachers to mark World AIDS Day with their colleagues and students in schools, classrooms, AIDS clubs and union meetings.

The toolkit is available on the EI EFAIDS website not only in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese but also in the languages of Wolof, Setwana, Sepedi, Kiswahili, Kirundi, Joola, Isixhosa, Fufulde, Kinyarwanda and Nepali.

The EI EFAIDS Programme hopes this will lead more teachers than ever to teach their colleagues and students about HIV/AIDS .
