published 30 April 2009 updated 30 April 2009

EI will be holding a seminar on school leadership in Helsinki, Finland, from 6 -8 May 2009. The seminar will be hosted by Opetusalan Ammattijärjestö (OAJ), one of the EI's member organisations in Finland.

Based on the theme "Quality leadership for quality education", the seminar will focus on the critical role of school leadership in achieving quality education, including the Education for All (EFA) targets and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Participants will share information and experiences on current issues, trends and developments in school management and leadership. The event will be an opportunity for them to exchange strategies for improving school leadership policy and practices, share experiences on how to promote democratic and participative leadership in school, as well as assess the impact of international comparative surveys and the current global economic crisis on school leadership and the provision of quality education.

Furthermore, participants will discuss training and continuous professional development for school leaders and examine ways of building a safe school environment for teachers, learners and other education employees.

Participants will also visit a school leadership training institution and local primary and secondary schools.

About 70 participants from Europe, North America, Africa and Asia, are expected to attend the seminar.
