ETUCE Committee elects new Vice President

At its two-day meeting in Brussels, Belgium, the ETUCE Committee has elected Monika Konczyk, from NSZZ Solidarnosc, in Poland, as the new Vice President for the Europe Region of Education International.

Ms. Konczyk, is a 2007 Marshall fellow, and the only teacher in Poland to hold this prestigious scholarship. She is also an elected Executive Board member of NSZZ Solidarnosc, Poland, where she is responsible for international relations. Commenting on her election, EI Europe’s Regional Director, Martin Rømer, said: "Monika has extensive experience of participating in EI and ETUCE steering committees across the region. I am confident that with here many strengths she will make a valuable addition to the leadership of the European region, as well as furthering the issues of teachers in the European arena." The ETUCE Committee received reports from the secretariat and its own sub-committees on a range of core issues, including: European Skills, Competencies and Occupations taxonomy; European Sectoral Social Dialogue in Education; Higher Education and Research Standing Committee; Equality Committee; School Leadership Working Group, and the ETUCE EU Projects Table. The Committee also noted that the new European structure was being implemented according to its recommendations. This meeting was the first regional committee meeting under the new European structure. Furthermore, the Committee planned ahead for the coming months, especially in view of events such as the EI World Congress, the ETUC Congress and the setup of a new European Working Group on Vocational Education and Training.
