On 12 June, speak out against child labour in schools and unions!
EI and its member organisations commemorate World Day Against Child Labour on 12 June. 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the World Day which, every year, provides an opportunity to shed light on the scope of child labour on a world scale, as well as raise awareness among teachers and students about the problem of child labour in the world.
For EI and its affiliates, this Day moreover provides a sterling opportunity to reaffirm the right of all children to quality public education.
This 12 June, thousands of teachers and trade unionist will speak about child labour throughout the world, by availing themselves particularly of the activity: “ One hour against child labour”, developed by EI with the support of the International Programme for the Elimination of Child Labour of the International Labour Organisation (ILO-IPEC).
EI encourages everybody to take part in this playful and informative activity in schools and trade unions. This activity must be considered as the starting point of a commitment throughout the year to the fight against child labour at different levels: in trade unions, classrooms and communities; both at national and international levels.
A good number of EI affiliates have in previous years conducted successful campaigns in their respective countries, as was particularly the case in Albania, Brazil, Ghana or Morocco. These trade unions consider that the fight against child labour is an essential element in the advocacy of the right to education.
