10th Education International Asia-Pacific Regional Conference: Organising for Power

published 12 October 2026 updated 12 October 2026

Over 300 education unionists are coming together for the tenth Education International Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on October 13 to 15 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Conference, with the theme “Organising for Power: Education Unions Shaping the Future of Education in the Asia-Pacific”, takes place at a critical moment for education workers and their unions.

Across the region, educators are confronting a myriad of interconnected challenges ranging from teacher shortages and chronic underfunding of public education, to attacks on professional autonomy and the growing impact of artificial intelligence.

Throughout the conference, delegates will work to tackle these challenges head-on and shape the future of education in the Asia-Pacific region.

Education International Asia-Pacific Regional Director Anand Singh emphasised that lasting change can only be achieved when educators are organised and able to exercise collective power.

“Organising for Power is about turning our shared commitment into collective action—building stronger organisations, mobilising our members, forging alliances and amplifying our influence to shape education policies and defend teachers’ rights.”

Anand Singh, Education International Asia-Pacific Regional Director

Conference delegates will engage in a varied programme of plenaries and breakout sessions, capacity-building, and informal networking moments – centered on three key areas:

  • Organising for strong public education - Education unions are key actors in defending and strengthening public education systems and the teaching profession.
  • Organising for rights, equity, and social justice - Human and trade union rights, gender equality, and social justice are at the heart of union organising and leadership.
  • Organising for democracy, peace, and climate justice - Education unions are central actors in broader struggles for democracy, peace, and a just and sustainable future.
