Development of a child labour free zone in Kagulu (Buyende district).
Objetivos
Following the successful implementation of a project against child labour in Entebbe (Kigungu and Nakiwogo villages) in 2019-2020 and Kyesiiga (Masaka district) in 2021-2023, UNATU is developing a child labour free zone in Kagulu (Buyende district).
Actividades
- Baseline survey.
- Training teachers, head teachers and deputy head teachers on child labour issues.
- Training teachers on SCREAM methodology.
- Training teachers on: Documentation of children enrolment and attendance; counselling & encouraging children to stay in school; using appropriate methodologies to make learning attractive; action research.
- Training teachers, head teachers, focal point teachers, senior men and women teachers on gender equality in education, with emphasis on safe schools, school-related gender based violence, menstrual hygiene management,school feeding programs.
- Training teachers on psychosocial support.
- Raising awareness in the media.
- Support 11 anti-child labour school clubs.
- Provide playing material (musical instruments).
- Design and develop plates for school compound with messages.
- Training of school management committees and Parents Teachers Associations on their roles and responsibilities, and on the advocacy strategy.
- Community awareness meetings.
Resultados
As of end December 2024, out of the 400 school-aged children identified as out of school in the baseline study (309 boys, 131 girls), 177 were reintegrated into the schools (130 boys, 47 girls). There will be more in 2025.
