Luchar contra la comercialización de la educación

La educación es un derecho humano y un bien público que solo puede materializarse plenamente mediante la provisión de una educación gratuita, equitativa, inclusiva y de calidad. La creciente comercialización y privatización del sector es la mayor amenaza para el derecho universal a la educación.

En todo el mundo, los intereses empresariales pretenden transformar todos los niveles de la educación, desde la primera infancia hasta la educación superior, en un mercado más, con ganadores y perdedores. Las condiciones de trabajo en el sector se van deteriorando a medida que los modelos de gestión del sector privado se aplican a las instituciones educativas. Corremos el riesgo de que, a medida que las escuelas privadas de bajo coste y baja calidad se extienden rápidamente, los gobiernos se desentiendan de su responsabilidad de garantizar el derecho a la educación para todos y todas. Las empresas que no necesitan rendir cuentas tienen una influencia excesiva en las políticas y las instituciones educativas. La pandemia de COVID-19 ha exacerbado esta tendencia, que amenaza con transformar la educación en una mercancía y dar prioridad a los beneficios sobre la calidad de la enseñanza.

Como educadores y educadoras, damos prioridad a nuestro alumnado por encima de los beneficios. En 2015 lanzamos nuestra Respuesta Mundial a la Comercialización y la Privatización de la Educación. A través de esta campaña exponemos y cuestionamos las políticas y las prácticas de los gobiernos, las organizaciones intergubernamentales y las instituciones financieras internacionales que socavan la educación pública y los derechos y la condición del personal docente y del personal de apoyo educativo. Asimismo, nos oponemos a los actores corporativos internacionales, especialmente a los proveedores de tecnología educativa, que presionan para avanzar hacia la comercialización y la privatización de la educación.
