Description

The project aims to build strong, inclusive, democratic, and effective unions in Cameroon's education sector. It is a continuation of the project that began between 2021 and 2023.

Objectifs

  • Equip at least 200 union leaders with legal, organizational, strategic and social mobilization skills to effectively manage the decentralized structures of the unions, recruit new activists and defend the union and professional rights of the teachers.
  • Create at least 20 women’s committees in the regions and equip their leaders with organizational leadership skills for mobilizing women at the grassroots level; 
  • Train 40 new activists to feed the information tools  in order to increase the visibility of the unions; 
  • To make the unions more inclusive by strengthening the participation and representation of the different components, so as to reach a quota of at least 40% of women and 30% of youth by 2026;
  • Train at least 2000 members in 3 years to have a consistent base of trained members by 2026 to have affiliates of ever higher quality, capable of mastering the issues in order to better translate them on the ground of mobilization and action.

Activités

1. Capacity Building for New Activists: Three online workshops introduced new activists to union fundamentals, providing training on education policies and governance. Participants gained skills to lead awareness and recruitment initiatives within their organisations.

2. Leadership Development for Middle Management: An in-person workshop strengthened middle-level leaders’ management competencies to oversee union structures. Training highlighted their role in operations, conflict resolution, and dues management — key to building robust, inclusive, democratic unions.

3. Empowerment of Young Trade Unionists: A youth workshop enhanced strategic analysis and use of communication tools, enabling young members to attract and engage peers.

Collectively, these activities boost union vitality, governance, participation, and sustainable growth.
