Global Unions produces report on successful trade union campaigns

published 8 December 2005 updated 6 June 2018

Together with Bureau for Workers' Activities at the International Labour Organisation (ILO ACTRAV) and the Global Union Research Network (GURN), the Global Unions have produced a report on successful cases of trade union resistance and the development of alternatives to the policies of the International Financial Institutions (IFI).

The 80-page draft report includes case studies of trade union campaigns against programmes of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. It also has chapters on international trade union campaigns to push the IFIs to take action on debt relief and to abide by the core labour standards. The draft report is available in English and Spanish. The finalized report will also be produced later in French. In January, the Washington office of the Global Unions, which produced the report, will be hosting an electronic discussion on the report so that trade union colleagues from around the world can offer comments on the material presented and make suggestions on overall conclusions regarding future trade union strategy vis-à-vis the IFIs. The discussion will begin on 9 January. Should any EI member organisation like to receive the draft report and participate in the discussion, please send an email to: Molly McCoy Global Unions, Washington Office Email: [email protected] For more information, please visit the following links.
