Second ILO SHARE report

published 19 May 2008 updated 19 May 2008

The International Labour Organisation launched its second SHARE (Strategic HIV/AIDS Responses in Enterprises) report in April 2008. Entitled Saving Lives, Protecting Jobs, it reports on workplace interventions and profiles success stories from over 650 workplaces worldwide.

The SHARE programme has been running for five years, reaching almost a million workers in 24 countries. Its goals are to: • to reduce employment-related discrimination against People Living with HIV (PLHIV); • to maintain employment for workers living with HIV; • to reduce high-risk behaviour among workers; • to facilitate access to voluntary and confidential testing, treatment, care and support.

Major developments and partnerships, as well as examples of best practice are included in the report. The SHARE Programme aims to implement the ILO Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS and the world of work by overcoming discrimination, changing behaviour and facilitating access to services and treatment.
