Education International joins the World AIDS Campaign in calling for the establishment of a high-level G8 AIDS mechanism and the fulfilment of commitments made on AIDS at previous G8 summits

published 27 June 2008 updated 27 June 2008

Education International and the Global Unions endorse the campaign statement and EI encourages affiliates to support it by sending their organisation’s name and email address to [email protected] with the subject ‘Statement Agreement’ before 30 June 2008.

Many national trade union centres to which EI member organisations are affiliated have already shown their support and it is important that teacher unions illustrate their commitment to progress on HIV/AIDS. A similar call to action earlier this year was widely supported by trade unions.

A strong response to this petition will send a clear message to decision-makers of the need to adequately address HIV/AIDS at the upcoming G8 summit on 8-9 July 2008 in Japan. HIV and AIDS is an education and workplace issue and Education International supports inter-governmental initiatives that give greater protection to the health and working conditions of workers worldwide.

Please consider the impact that trade unions can have collectively and sign up today.
