EI is committed to strengthening unions by defending, enforcing and expanding the labour rights of teachers, education workers and students. Strong, effective and representative unions are essential to building a fair and just society. EI’s principles of equality and non-discrimination underpin its action to ensure that there is no discrimination based on gender or any other grounds in unions, education and society. EI mobilises support to promote the ratification, implementation and enforcement of appropriate international standards. Cuts in public budgets and social expenditure make the defence of collective bargaining rights and the strengthening of measures to ensure equality and social inclusion an urgent priority.
