Collaborative efforts in education have been making remarkable strides in building the necessary social capital to harmonise the efforts of various players in the education sector, including teacher unions. At the heart of the collaborative missions lies a profound commitment to mobilising capacity to facilitate distinct, substantial, and sustainable advancements in education by championing the use of systemic approaches which advance the education transformation agenda through the coordination, integration, and alignment of capacity building initiatives at the various levels of education systems.
The 10th Education International (EI) World Congress, meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 29 July to 2 August, recognises that:
Education institutions face similar challenges including insufficient budgets, the need to support teaching professionals in relation to advancing their technical capabilities and social welfare;
Successful collaboration frameworks, demonstrate the efficacy of partnerships between governments, stakeholders, and teacher unions in addressing educational issues;
Collaboration between education unions and authorities is essential for fostering a supportive and conducive environment for effective advancement of teaching and learning;
The resolution on the Commercialisation of Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the 8th World Congress of Education International in 2019 expressed deep concern over the involvement of private sector agents in the education sector and rejected any commodification of education, urging governments to renounce public-private partnerships;
Education unions play a critical role in promoting the professional needs of educators and the design and delivery of education improvement initiatives across education systems;
Education unions are critical in maintaining a balance of power crucial for protecting the educational agenda across developing and developed countries amid dwindling government budgets, which leads to the deterioration of public teaching and favours the increase of education in the hands of private business and the growing interest in education as a profit-making mechanism to private business.
Mandates the Executive Board to:
Promote research on a collaborative framework approach that will address educational challenges worldwide;
Engage with member organisations to promote the establishment of collaborative models for education improvement frameworks in their respective regions;
Request governments to protect education from commercial interests and collaborate with member organisations to ensure that any possible collaboration framework protects education from private profit-seeking;
Play a critical role in advocating for the adoption of collaborative frameworks on a global scale;
Support member organizations in the development, dissemination, and sharing of public policies and innovative solutions that are presented within the framework of collaboration.
