Building momentum for teachers and a better future for all
Since the launch of our Go Public! Fund Education campaign and the UN Transforming Education Summit in 2022, we have been building momentum in support and recognition of our profession at the highest levels of power. The 2024 United Nations Recommendations and this year’s Santiago Consensus are unprecedented victories for our movement at the global level. This World Teachers’ Day gives us the opportunity to build on these important wins.
For the first time ever, the official event marking World Teachers’ Day will not be held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris but will be hosted by the African Union in the framework of the Pan-African Conference on Teacher Education (PACTED) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In addition to the World Teachers’ Day celebrations on October 3rd, PACTED will also mark the launch of a new Continental Education Strategy for Africa and the African Decade for Education. Together, these important events demonstrate a renewed continental and global commitment to prioritising education and the teaching profession as drivers of sustainable development.
