GTU hosted a Women’s Symposium in connection with International Women’s Day to bring together women and men to celebrate their successes, to acknowledge the particular challenges faced by women, and to identify ways and means for them to move forward and make meaningful contributions to the GTU, to the educational community and to society.
Objetivos
The specific objectives of these activities were to:
- address the systematic barriers and biases women face,
- educate and raise awareness about women’s equality,
- call for positive change that advances women,
- call out stereotypes, challenge discrimination, and question bias,
- celebrate women’s success and share knowledge and encouragement with others.
Actividades
The keynote speeches, the panel discussions and the break out sessions addressed the following thematics:
- A world free of violence against women, Embrace equity
- Accelerate Action: It’s time to turn promises into progress
- For ALL women and girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment
- Education unions – determined to end SRGBV
- Gender Equality
- Building confidence, developing leadership
- Women in leadership – breaking barriers
- Young people in leadership
- Inspiring change
- Climate change
- How can women gain visibility in their workplaces
Resultados
The symposium sought to create a unique space for sharing ideas and experiences, bringing women together to learn from one another on how to navigate the unwritten rules in our society. The symposium was intended to help raise awareness about ongoing issues related to gender equality and women’s rights and provide (1) an opportunity for women and other stakeholders in education to come together and take action to create a more equal and just society for all, and (2) an opportunity to learn from inspiring conversations and practical working sessions.
