Together we are building the education unions of the future: mass participation organisations that reflect the diverse interests and identities of their members and offer educators a multitude of ways to engage and contribute.

    World Social Forum, 19-23 January 2006

    An EI delegation led by Deputy General Secretary, Elie Jouen, participated in the World Social Forum held recently in Bamako, Mali. Two other forums will be organised soon, the first in Caracas, Venezuela and the second in Karachi, Pakistan.

    New Global Trade Union Centre to be formed

    The ICFTU [1] Executive Board, meeting in Brussels 21-22 June, took the historic decision to hold a special Congress in 2006 to form a new Global Trade Union Centre. The meeting was chaired by the new ICFTU President, Sharan Burrow, a former Vice-President of EI.
