The Executive Board of Education International has expressed its recognition for a life devoted to education to Deputy General Secretary Charlie Lennon, who will retire in the coming months.

The announcement of his retirement was met by his colleagues with signs of recognition and gratitude for his leadership and engagement for the improvement of teachers’ rights and education in general.

He joined Education International in 2004 as Chief Coordinator of Administration, and was appointed Deputy General Secretary in May 2008.

He was a member of the EI Executive Board from 1995-1998 and President of the EI European Region from 1999 to 2003. He also was a member of numerous Irish Government working parties and commissions on education issues, as well as member of both the Irish National Economic and Social Council and the Irish National Economic and Social Forum.
